Semyon Fridman

Cellist Semyon Fridman, First Prize Winner of the 1987 Concert Artists Guild International New York Competition, is a native of Kiev, Russia. Now an American citizen and a resident of New York City, Mr. Fridman has quickly established himself as a soloist and chamber musician of note.

Among Mr. Fridman’s solo engagements with orchestra are the Baltimore Symphony and Kiev State Philharmonic. Mr. Fridman, who made his critically acclaimed New York debut in February 1988 at Merkin Concert Hall, has recital engagements during the 1988-89 season in Los Angeles (Ambassador Auditorium Gold Medal Series), Baltimore (Shriver Hall Piatigorsky Memorial Recital), Boston, Miami, and Jacksonville.

Mr. Fridman’s chamber music performances have included collaborations with Joseph Silverstein, Sidney Harth, Karen Tuttle, Paul Doktor, Charles Neidich, Lewis Kaplan, Berl Senofsky, Stephen Kates, Robert Dam and Ellen Mack. He has toured internationally and to great acclaim as a member of the Bowdoin Trio, First Prize Winner of the performances have included 1984 Concert Artists’ Guild Competition.

Semyon Fridman studied at Kiev’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory and, following his arrival in the United States, completed his studies with Stephen Kates.
