Scott Jackson Wiley

Scott Jackson WIley’s performing career encompasses the roles of classical guitar soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. After nine years of study and performance in Spain, Mr. Wiley’s return to the U.S. was marked by a critically acclaimed New York debut. He has since appeared at Merkin Hall, CAMI Hall, and Weill Recital Hall as featured soloist in the New York International Guitar Festival sponsored by the American Institute of Guitar. He toured Japan at the invitation of the U.S.-Japan Music Exchange Association, and has performed with many of New York City’s contemporary music ensembles. He also appears frequently with the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra Chamber Players.

Mr. Wiley is conductor of the Moravian College Community Orchestra in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and is assistant conductor of the New Amsterdam Symphony in New York City. He has appeared as guest conductor of the Greater Indianapolis Youth Symphony and the Indiana Opera Theatre. In June of 1992 he will conduct the National Youth Orchestra of Spain in the prestigious International Festival of Music and Dance of Grenada, Spain.

Mr. Wiley graduated in Guitar with first prize honors from the Conservatory of Barcelona, where his principal teacher was Narciso Yepes. Other instructors include guitarists Emilio Pujol and Mario Escudero, pianist Gyorgy Sebok, and cellist George Neikrug. He presently studies conducting with Michael Charry at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, where he is a candidate for the Master’s Degree in orchestral conducting, and under Charles Bruck at the Pierre Monteux Memorial School for Conductors in Hancock, Maine.
