Samuel Thompson

Samuel Thompson enjoys a versatile life that includes solo, chamber music, orchestral and interdisciplinary performance and arts journalism.  He has performed throughout North America in venues including Carnegie Hall, Koerner Hall (Toronto), the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Music Center at Strathmore, Wortham Theatre Center (Houston) and the historic Dock Street Theatre (Charleston).

A very active violinist in the region, Samuel is a member of the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra and has performed with the Delaware Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, Peabody Concert Opera and Washington DC’s Great Noise Ensemble. Samuel is currently a member of the Colour of Music Virtuosi, a twenty-member chamber orchestra comprised of African-American instrumentalists from across the United States, and for two seasons served as one of the concertmasters of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre.

Samuel is a member of the 2017 class of SphinxConnect Fellows and a two-time recipient of Artistic Assistance awards from Alternate ROOTS made possible with funds from the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Kresge Foundation. He holds the Master of Music degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. (2017)
