Peter Landgren

Peter Landgren is currently the Associate Principal Horn of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1981. He joined that orchestra in 1978 as Third Horn while in his senior year at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He made his solo debut with the BSO in 1982 under the baton of Joseph Silverstein and most recently appeared as soloist with that orchestra in 1986.

Mr. Landgren has performed as Principal Horn of the Cincinnati, Columbus, and Houston Symphony Orchestras and is a former member of the Cincinnati Symphony Opera Orchestra. He has also recorded with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Landgren’s former teachers include Michael Hatfield, Dale Clevenger, and Milan Yancich.

In addition to his duties with the Baltimore Symphony, Mr. Landgren is a member of the Baltimore Brass Quintet and an active soloist and recitalist. An active member of the International Horn Society Peter served as guest artist at: the 21st Annual Horn Symposium (Munich, West Germany); the 17th Annual International Horn Workshop (Towson, Maryland); the 11th (Tallahassee, Florida) and 9th (Auburn, Alabama) Annual Southeast Horn Workshops; and the First International Horn Society Horn Camp.

Mr. Landgren is a full-time faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory of Music and serves as coordinator of the Brass Department. Peter has been on the faculty since 1981, and in 1987 was presented an award by the student council “for his leadership and outstanding contributions towards the Peabody Community.” Mr. Landgren’s other awards include: winner of the 1989 Montpelier Recital Competition; award of special mention from the 1988 Concerts Atlantique Touring Artists Program; finalist in the 1987 American Horn Competition; and three-time winner (1977-78) of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory’s Concerto Competition.
