Jeff Silberschlag

Jeff Silberschlag, trumpet, has performed as soloist throughout Europe, the United States, and Israel. During the 1991 summer, Mr. Silberschlag perfomed with the Hungarian Virtuosi in Budapest and Zagreb and presented a master class in A’osta, Italy. He was a co-winner of the 1991 Newton T. Dodge Prize for Creative and Scholarly Achievement and Fanfare Magazine singled out his performance as “Outstanding” on The Maryland Bach Aria Group’s new recording for Crystal Records. Additionally his playing has been praised by The New York Times, Kölnische Rundschau, Jerusalem Post, and Italy’s Corriere della Sera. Mr. Silberschlag has performed with the world’s leading conductors, including Sir George Solti, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, and Mstistlav Rostropovich. He has performed with European contemporary composers such Luciano Berio, Hans Werner Henze, and Heinz Stockhausen. American composers William Thomas McKinley, Robert Hall Lewis, David Froom, and David MacBride have all written compositions especially for him. Mr. Silberschlag has held Principal Trumpet positions with the Italian Radio/Television Symphony Orchestra RAI-Torino, New York City Opera National Company, and the Jerusalem Symphony. In 1986, Mr. Silberschlag recorded Bach’s Brandenburg No. 2 for the Eurovision Television Network.

Highlights of Mr. Silberschlag’s 1992 concert season include the recording of his second CD in New York, an appearance as Conductor/Soloist with the Maui Symphony in Hawaii, an appearance as guest soloist with the Richmond Symphony, and a solo concert in Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Silberschlag is in the faculty of St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he is the Director of the Chamber Orchestra and teaches trumpet. This summer he will be in residence at the University of Siena in Italy where he will present a trumpet seminar/master class with Ercole Ceretta and William Vacchiano.
