David Neal

Bass-Baritone David Neal has appeared with the Baltimore Opera, the New England Lyric Operetta, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Central City Opera, the Pennsylvania Opera Theater, the Lancaster Symphony, Concert Artists of Baltimore, and many other musical organizations. Recent appearances include the role of Oscar in Baltimore Opera’s critically acclaimed production of Blitztein’s Regina and Pooh-Bah in The Mikado at the Folger Elizabethan Theater in Washington, D.C. He made his Canadian operatic debut in 1994 at the Banff Festival as Truelove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, and has made solo appearances at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall with the Oratorio Society of Washington and the Paul Hill Chorale. His extensive oratorio repertoire includes leading roles in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, St. John Passion, Christmas Oratorio, and B Minor Mass, Handel’s Messiah, and Judas Maccabeus, and many other major works. He is also a frequent recitalist in the Mid-Atlantic region.

David Neal received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts from Peabody Conservatory in 1992. Mr. Neal is an adjunct faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory, and is on the voice faculties of the Peabody Preparatory and the St. Paul’s Schools. He has been Conductor of the Johns Hopkins Choral Society since September of 1993.
