Daniel Silver

Daniel Silver, clarinet, has an international career spanning a full range of musical activities including recitals, solo appearances, chamber music and orchestral playing. Based in Baltimore, he is the Principal Clarinet of the Baltimore Opera Orchestra, the Washington Chamber Symphony and the National Chamber Orchestra. In addition, he is a regular member of the Contemporary Music Forum of Washington, D.C. in residence at the Corcoran Gallery.

Mr. Silver has performed and toured with the Baltimore Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, including Carnegie Hall concerts with David Zinman and Lorin Maazel. He has worked extensively with many well-known conductors including Gerard Schwarz, Christopher Seaman, Kenneth Schemerhorn and Jorge Mester. He served as Principal Clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic from 1980 to 1987. His festival credits include Tanglewood and Aspen, and he now spends his summers at the Interlochen Arts Camps, where he has been on the faculty since 1991.

Performances this past season include concerts as soloist for the Clarinet Concerto of Margaret Brouwer with the Roanoke Symphony, a work which Mr. Silver premiered in 1994.

Daniel Silver serves on the faculties of the Baltimore School for the Arts and Towson State University. A graduate of Northwestern University, he studied with Robert Marcellus. His wife, Ann Marie Morgan, is a noted performer on the viola da gamba and a faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory.
