Barry Dove

Barry Dove, a native Baltimorean, received his Bachelor’s degree in music education, his Performer’s Certificate, and his Master’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where for three of his undergraduate years he was awarded the Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Scholarship. He has studied with Buster Bailey, Fred Begun, Shirley Givens, Jonathan Haas, Dennis Kain, Dale Rauschenberg, Berl Senofsky, Leigh Howard Stevens, and Scott Stevens. He is a member of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, is vibraphonist and founder of the Barry Dove Jazz Quartet and is a percussion instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University. Barry Dove has also performed with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Filene Center Orchestra, Handel Choir, and the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra.

In 1987 at Peabody, Barry Dove was the First Prize Winner in the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition, a prize which included a solo concerto performance with the Peabody Symphony Orchestra in May of that year. Mr. Dove has also been heard as a recitalist at Hood College, The Johns Hopkins University, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Towson State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Western Maryland College, and the Walters Art Gallery. He has also performed at the Walden School of Music in New Hampshire, where in 1988 and 1991 he was Artist-In-Residence.

Barry Dove performs on the new extended range four and one-half octave Kori Marimba, for which he has premiered ten new works in the past four years, eight of which were commissioned for him. He is active as a recitalist and clinician for the Gordon Artists and the Kori Marimba Company. Mr. Dove has recently been included in the Musical America Solo Artist Directory as a Gordon Artist.
