Victoria Chiang
Victoria Chiang, viola, has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Highlights include concerto appearances with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Acadiana Symphony (Lafayette, LA), the Romanian State Philharmonics in Constantsa and Tirgu Muresh, and solo performances in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and at the XXV International Viola Congress. Ms. Chiang’s recording of the sonatas for viola and piano by Shostakovich and Roslavets received a “strong recommendation” from Fanfare magazine. This season she is performing and recording Ignaz Pleyel’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, for release on the Naxos label.
Ms. Chiang is a founding member of the Aspen Ensemble, a quintet of flute, piano, and strings, which concertizes internationally. She has been a guest artist with the Guarneri, Takacs, Tokyo, American, and Pro Arte String Quartets, and with members of the Emerson, Cleveland, and Juilliard String Quartets. She has been a regular guest artist at the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, and a frequent guest on the Bargemusic series.
Currently a member of the artist/faculty at Peabody and the Aspen Music Festival, Ms. Chiang has given master classes throughout the world. She is a former faculty member at Juilliard and the Hartt School of Music, and a former member of the board of the American Viola Society.
Ms. Chiang earned the Master of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and the Bachelor of Music degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers are Heidi Castleman and Masao Kawasaki, viola; and Dorothy DeLay and Kurt Sassmannshaus, violin.
