Pervinca Rista

Born in Italy, Pervinca spent most of her school years in Baltimore. When she was 16 she entered the Peabody Conservatory, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree at age 19, a Master of Music degree at age 20, and a Graduate Performance Diploma at age 21. At the same time she graduated with a BA in Romance Languages and Literatures from the Johns Hopkins University School of Arts and Sciences. She is studying violin with Victor Danchenko, and previously studied with Shirley Givens and John Merrill. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and a PhD in Comparative Literature in the Dept. of Romance Languages and Literatures of the Johns Hopkins University, the first double doctorate approved at JHU. Pervinca is also completing a violin diploma from the State Conservatory in Italy. She is currently teaching an undergraduate course at the Johns Hopkins University.

Pervinca is concertmaster of the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, has served as concertmaster in Opera Vivente productions, as principal in the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of the Peabody Chamber Players. She often participates in concerts with other orchestras in the US and Italy, and gives solo and chamber music recitals. She has won academic prizes and recognitions as well as violin competitions. She was the winner of the 2009 Golden Key award for Performing Arts of the Instrumental Performance category, a US nation-wide competition.
