Iraida Poberezhnaya

Iraida Poberezhnaya is a concert harpist with a broad repertoire. She has performed as a soloist and with ensembles in Europe and the US, including the Stanislavski Opera and Ballet Theatre (Moscow), Santa Barbara (California) Symphony, Santa Maria (California) Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Opera, and Prince George’s (Maryland) Philharmonic.
She holds two doctoral degrees in harp, from the Peabody and Moscow Conservatories. In Moscow she studied with the eminent harpist Olga Erdeli, a People’s Artist of Russia. Dr. Poberezhnaya earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in harp from Azerbaijan Conservatory of Music.
Dr. Poberezhnaya was a winner at the International Harp Competition (Baku, 1990), and a participant in the International Harp Contest in Israel (Jerusalem, 1995) and the USA International Harp Competition (Bloomington, 1995). Her CD releases include The Music of Mary with Rudolph Lucente (Vantage Records, 1998), Silvestre Revueltas with the Santa Barbara Symphony (Koch, 1999), and a solo album, La Source (IIAM, 2010).
Dr. Poberezhnaya has taught at the Azerbaijan Conservatory of Music, Baltimore Music School, and Wilkes-Barre University. An active member of American Harp Society, she has served as President of the Santa Barbara Harp Society and the Oklahoma City Harp Society, and directed the Santa Barbara Harp Festival (2000-02). Her articles have been published in international harp magazines and journals. She was invited to play a recital at the 2008 International Harp Congress, in Amsterdam.
