Carlos Espinal

Carlos Espinal, born in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, is one of the most important stage actors of his country, in addition to being an acclaimed director, producer, and writer. After receiving training and starting his acting career in his native country and in Spain, he went to New York, where he graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and went on at act and director for Teatro La Tea there.

Among his credits are work at Repertorio Español, Circulo Theater, IATI Theater, Sociedad Educativa de Las Artes, Prometeo, and Teatro Arte Unido. As an actor, he has been seen as Chuy Badillo in the TV show Law and Order and has had a long and active career in Dominican television.

In 1993, he was invited to perform the play Caligula at the National Theatre and was nominated Best Actor of the year for the “El Casandra Awards.” In addition his other credits, he was also was the voice of Cafe A La Media Noche (Midnight Coffee), the most relevant late-night radio show of the Dominican Republic. His portrayal of Molina in the internationally acclaimed musical The Kiss of The Spider Woman by Terrence McNally won him outstanding reviews and an award as Best Actor of the Year. In 2011 he toured in 30 Years Of Love, Passion & Tears—an exhibit and performance of his theater career and work as a poet.  The following year he presented at Dante Hall Theater his one-man show Peter El Roho, The Gorilla—a bilingual monologue about immigration and acculturation. In May 2013, he directed the international success Glorious by Peter Quilter.
