Catherine Overhauser

Founding Music Director, 1981-1987

Catherine Overhauser is Music Director of the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, which she founded in 1981. Recently she has also been appointed Conductor of Michigan’s new Mackinac Island Music Festival. Since 1985 she has served as Assistant Conductor of the Prince George’s Philharmonic, and has also served as Assistant Conductor of the Aspen Music Festival. She has guest conducted in Munich and Rome in addition to her frequent appearances with Res Musica Baltimore and the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia. Many world premieres have taken place under her baton.

Ms. Overhauser received her conducting training at the Peabody Conservatory, the Indiana University School of Music, and in Vienna, Munich, Rome, and Siena. In 1983 she was awarded Diploma di perferzionamente in orchestral conducting from Rome’s Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

In addition to her conducting activities Ms. Overhauser is Associate Editor of a multi-volume book series for Greenwood Press titled The Musical Woman: An International Perspective.
