Chang Woo Lee
Cellist Chang Woo Lee was born in Korea. She began her musical studies at age 10, and went on to win three national competitions. At the third competition, cellist Janos Starker was in the audience and was impressed by her playing. He invited her to come to the United States and arranged a full scholarship to Indiana University in Bloomington. Miss Lee arrived in the U.S. in 1970, studied with Starker and received her Artist’s Diploma in 1975.
Upon graduation from Indiana University, Change Woo Lee became principal cellist for the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra in Canada, and a year later, became a member of the National Arts Center Orchestra in Ottawa. She came to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1978 as Assistant Principal Cellist.
Miss Lee has appeared as soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and with orchestras in Mexico, Canada , and Korea. She was chosen “Musician of the Year” in Korea for 1982, following her successful solo recital there last summer.
